Manipur�s recovery rate touches 75.89%

IMPHAL, Sept 21 - With the expiry of two female patients, the death toll due to COVID-19 and co-morbid health conditions in Manipur rose to 59 today, officials said.

�In the last 24 hours, two female patients aged 75 years and 53 years, both from Imphal West, expired at RIMS and JNIMS respectively due to COVID-19 and other comorbid conditions,� said Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of the Health Department in a press release. �The cumulative number of deaths is 59.�

Manipur reported its first death due to COVID-19 on July 29, while the first COVID-19 positive case was reported on March 24.

Meanwhile, 87 persons (59 male 28 female) from the general population and 29 from the Central Armed Police Force were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours, the release said.

They are from ten districts of the state. Four persons out of the general population are returnees from other states, while the rest 83 are locals without any significant travel history.

They are being shifted to the Covid care facilities, it added. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

On the other hand, 71 persons were discharged from six Covid care facilities in the past 24 hours, it said.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 9,010 while the cumulative number of recovered cases is 6,838, it added. The number of active cases is 2,113, while the recovery rate is 75.89 percent.

Today, 3,72,016 people were screened at various entry points of the state while 2,12,175 samples were tested for COVID-19, the latest official report said.
