Manipur�s Nongpok Sekmai adjudged the best police station in India

IMPHAL, Dec 3 - The Nongpok Sekmai Police Station in Thoubal district has been adjudged the best police station in the country this year by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Kharsang Police Station in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh is ranked third and the Pakyong Police Station in East district of Sikkim is ranked seventh.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually presented the trophy to Inspector Keisam Premkumar Mangang, Officer In-Charge (OC) of the Nongpok Sekmai Police Station, on Wednesday during the ongoing DGsP/lGsP Conference, 2020.

The trophy presentation ceremony was held at the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau Office here, according to the PRO of Manipur Police, W Basu Singh.

During the DGsP Conference held in Gujarat in 2015, the Prime Minister called for laying down parameters to grade police stations on the basis of their performance as well as citizens� feedback. The objective is to rank the top 10 among the 16,671 police stations in the country.

Accordingly, the Annual Assessment of the Best Police Stations Scheme was undertaken to identify and recognize the ten best police stations of the country and also the best police station in a particular State or union territory, the PRO said.

During an inspection on October 10 by a team of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, various parameters were checked.

�The Trophy for the Best Police Station in India given to the OC, Nongpok Sekmai Police Station by the Union Home Minister is a recognition of the professionalism, hard work, dedication and community oriented policing by the Manipur Police,� an official release stated.

The Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district and the City Police Station in lmphal West district were selected as the best police stations in 2018 and 20l9 respectively.

A Correspondent from Gangtok adds: The Pakyong Police Station in East Sikkim district has been ranked among the 10 best police stations of the country in a survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The police stations were evaluated on various professional parameters, one of these being citizens� feedback.
