Manipur�s Asian Games sportspersons feted

IMPHAL, Oct 11 � A sum of Rs 187 lakh were distributed as cash incentives to 57 players and five officials from Manipur who were part of India�s 516 strong contingent in the recently concluded Asian Games at Incheon during a state level felicitation function in Imphal on Saturday.

Out of 57 players, three of them won gold while four others won bronze medals. All the three gold medallists including five times world champion MC Mary Kom were awarded Rs 15 lakh each while the bronze medallist including boxer L Sarita Rs 8 lakh each.

Two other gold medallists are hockey players in Indian team � Kh Kothajit and K Chinglensana while the remaining three bronze medallist are Y Sanathoi (Wushu), P Sushila and Th Chanchan (Indian hockey female team).

Five officials of archery, cycling, football (female), hockey (female) and wrestling also were from Manipur accompanied the Indian contingent.

Today�s function was attended by the state Governor KK Paul and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh. Coaches and many international and national payers of the state also attended the felicitation function which was organised by the state youth affairs and sports department.

On August 12 this year, the state government had honoured state�s 14 medal winning players and participants of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games by giving cash incentives. Those who received the cash incentives include gold medallist Kh Sanjita (weighlifting), silver medalists - L Sarita, L Devendra (boxing), S Mirabai (weighlifting), Kothajit, Chinglensana (hockey) L Sushila (judo), K Ramananda (diving).
