Manipuri Language Day observed at Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI, Aug 22 - Various programmes including Kavi Sanmilan were organised by Assam Manipur Sahitya Parishad on the occasion of the 29th Manipuri Language Day at Lala in Hailakandi district on Thursday. Former president of the Parishad, H Manisena Singha inaugurated the day-long programme with the hoisting of flag in the morning.

Kavi sanmilan held on the occasion was conducted by Dev Singha Subram. A large number of poets including Indira Singha, P Nani Singha, K Rabindra Singha, M Nandakumar Singha, Joy Singha read out their self-composed poems.

The open session held on the occasion was presided over by the vice president of the Parishad, L Khagendra Singha. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, MP of Karimganj, Kripanath Mallah assured to extend his helping hand towards the development of Manipuri community of the locality. Praising the role of Parishad for the development of culture and language of Manipuri community, Mallah said that he would provide financial assistance for the construction of a community hall in the area. Various speakers expressed serious concern over the non inclusion of Manipuri language in the examinations of Assam Public Service Commission and requested the MP to place it in the next session of Parliament.

Some meritorious students of Manipuri community were also felicitated on the occasion.
