Manipuri body donates to Assam Arogya Nidhi

SILCHAR, April 12 - Responding to the appeal made by the Government for voluntary contributions in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Joint Action Committee for Safeguard of Indigenous Manipuri People of Assam has extended monetary donation of Rs 50,000 to the Assam Arogya Nidhi.

Members of the Joint Action Committee handed over the cheque to Cachar Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sarma.

A Nanda Babu Singh, retired ACS officer and chairman of the body said that their committee is a conglomeration of 16 associations working for the safeguard of indigenous Manipuri people residing in the State especially in the context of the Clause VI of the Assam Accord. �We understand that approximately Rs 40 crore would be required to construct one hospital in the State and hence we decided to extend our humble contribution so that the money could be used in the Government�s mission to fight COVID-19. Further, we urge the Government to include Manipuri language in the APSC examination and other government examinations so that Manipuri people are not deprived,� the chairman reiterated.
