Manipur virus tally breaches 11,000-mark

IMPHAL, Oct 1 - With 128 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, COVID-19 cases in Manipur has breached the 11,000-mark.

The new cases took the State�s overall tally to 11,111.

Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, spokesperson and Additional Director of the Health Department, in a press release said that 112 civilians and 16 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel were tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

They were being shifted to the COVID care facilities, the release said. All necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing have been initiated. �In the last 24 hours, a 50-year-old COVID patient from Thoubal district expired at JNIMS,� the release said. The cumulative number of deaths has touched 68.

The State reported its first COVID-19 case on March 24 and the first death due to the infection on July 29.

On the other hand, 181 patients were discharged from 12 COVID care facilities in the past 24 hours, the release informed.

The cumulative number of recovered cases in the State now stands at 8,641 while the number of active cases is 2,402. The recovery rate is 77.76 percent. So far, 3,86,699 people were screened at various entry points to the State while 2,43,870 samples were tested for COVID-19, according to the latest report of the State Surveillance Officer of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.
