By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Sept 7 - Volunteers of the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) today staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here, demanding restoration of normalcy in the Manipur University.

The demonstration started around 3 pm after a MUSU team headed by its president, M Dayaman, called on Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, who is also the Chief Rector of the Manipur University, and apprised her of the prevailing situation in the university.

We are staging a demonstration at the Raj Bhavan gate as we did not get an appropriate answer from the Governor, complained MUSU general secretary L Kennedy.

A large contingent of police personnel rushed to the area when a separate MUSU group shouting slogans and holding placards marched towards the Raj Bhavan gate from the Keishampat side. Later, the police picked up nearly 100 students in three vans.

Meanwhile, a two-member committee set up to probe the charges levelled against the Manipur University Vice Chancellor AP Pandey initiated the inquiry process on Thursday.
