Manipur tops NITI Aayogs School Education Quality Index

By CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, Oct 2 - Manipur has topped the list of the best performing smaller States in the NITI Aayogs School Education Quality Index (SEQI).

Addressing reporters here today, Education Minister Th Radheshyam attributed the success to continuous support from all stakeholders despite limited facilities.

The SEQI assesses States and Union Territories (UTs) on the basis of learning outcomes, access, equity and infrastructure, and facilities, using survey and self-reported data from States and third-party verification. The NITI Aayog developed the SEQI to identify areas of deficiency in the school education system so that targeted interventions can be made at every level.

Radheshyam said the assessment of the school education systems across the country was conducted under three categories larger States, smaller States and UTs through 33 indicators and Manipur was ranked first among the smaller States with a score of 68.76 points.

The Education Minister said his department is planning to take up various programmes to develop school education in the State by upgrading the existing infrastructure, besides introducing smart classes with funds provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

The Manipur Education Department launched the School Fagat Hansi mission in January this year under the Governments Go to Village mission with an objective to give renewed thrust to the betterment of government schools. Under the mission, all government schools of the State will be developed as model schools in the first phase.
