Manipur to observe diarrhoea control fortnight

IMPHAL, July 28 � Manipur State Family Welfare Directorate under the aegis of Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, will observe an intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight Campaign from July 28 to August 8 next.

This was disclosed by State Mission Director of Family Welfare Services Dr O Ibomcha Singh at a press conference here.

A steering committee at State and district levels have been constituted while a capacity building workshop for important functionaries was also held, he said. The main activities of the campaign will include intensification of advocacy activities, awareness generation activities, diarrhoea management service provision, establishing ORS-Zinc corners, ORS distribution by ASHA, detection of undernourished children and their treatment and promotion of Infant and Young Child Feeding activities.

The first week of the campaign (July 28-August 2) would focus on diarrhoea control related activities such as awareness generation and the simple proven interventions that have large impact towards control of childhood diarrhoeal morbidity and mortality. The second week (August 4-8) would focus on Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices for awareness generation on correct child feeding practices, creating awareness on problem of under nutrition, detection and treatment of under nutrition and providing effective counselling services, he added.
