Manipur to import rice from Myanmar

IMPHAL, Sept 8 � Manipur will import 300 metric tonnes of rice from Myanmar from this month to meet the scarcity of rice in the State, official sources said today.

The State Government has received the nod of the Centre to import the rice from the neighbouring country.

Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Y Erabot yesterday inspected godowns of Food and Civil Supply department in the border town of Moreh in Chandel district through which the rice would be imported.

Manipur Government principal secretary O Nabakishore and commissioner of the Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution department P Vaiphei accompanied the Minister, sources said. � PTI

Manipur official repulse militant attack

Imphal, Sept 8 � About four suspected militants fired at the residence of a senior Manipur Government official in Imphal West district, but no harm could be done, police said here today.

The unidentified militants fired at the private house of the Superintending Engineer of State Agriculture department, K Manoranjan late last night.

The militants fled when the official fired from his gun, sources said adding monetary demand from the official could be the reason behind the incident. � PTI
