Manipur tally crosses 27,000 mark

IMPHAL, Dec 12 - With 177 new COVID-19 positive cases, the virus tally of Manipur today reached 27,036.

Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, spokesperson of the State Health Department, stated in a press release that 153 civilians and 24 Central Armed Police Forces personnel were confirmed positive at 21 testing facilities in the last 24 hours.

The new cases among the general population are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Kamjong and Senapati districts.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, a 70-year-old female from Thoubal and a 78-year-old male from Chandel expired at the RIMS and the JNIMS Hospital respectively, the release added. The cumulative number of virus deaths in Manipur is currently 322.

Meanwhile, 116 persons, including 69 under home isolation, were discharged from 12 COVID care facilities in the past 24 hours. The total active and recovered cases in the State now stand at 3,057 and 23,657 respectively. The recovery rate is 87.50 per cent.

As of Saturday, 4,99,664 people have been screened at various entry points into Manipur, while 4,49,857 individuals have been tested for COVID-19, said officials.
