Manipur students protest JNU attack

IMPHAL, Jan 7 - A protest demonstration against the attack on students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, was held by students at the Manipur University here today.

Students across the country have been protesting against the attack on their JNU counterparts. Joining the nationwide protest, JNU alumni from Manipur and students of various colleges staged the demonstration at the Manipur University. The protesters also condemned the violence perpetrated on students across the country over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

They raised slogans against the attack on students of universities, besides singing a protest song. However, the police later dispersed them.

Talking to reporters, an alumnus of the JNU said that the protest was organised to express solidarity for students of the JNU as well as others who suffered in the violence unleashed in university campuses across the country.

On Monday, students of Manipur University under the banner of the Manipur University Students� Union (MUSU) held a candlelight vigil in protest against the JNU incident at the main gate of the university.
