Manipur sets hearing aid fitting record

IMPHAL, Nov 6 - Manipur entered the Guinness Book of World Records for fitting maximum number of hearing aid and assistive devices to the beneficiaries at a single location in eight hours in Imphal, breaking the previous record set by Gujarat earlier this year.

Confirming this, a �symbolic certificate� from Guiness World Records was handed over to Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh at CM�s Secreatariat here on Saturday night, official sources said.

Stating that �it is a proud moment for all of us in Manipur to create such a world record�, Ibobi said, �All credit must be given to our Health services team for their effort.�

According to Manipur Health Commissioner PK Singh, as many as 3,911 persons were fitted with hearing aid by 150 audiologists during the programme and more than 5,000 persons were fitted at the end of the programme.

The event was organised by the Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness, National Health Mission, Manipur in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Government of India with a target to provide hearing aid to 6,464 beneficiaries from nine districts of the State.
