Manipur reports 2 COVID deaths

IMPHAL, Sept 6 - Two COVID-19 infected patients died during the past 24 hours, while 139 fresh positive cases were detected in the State. The overall virus tally in the State now stands at 7,022.

�In the past 24 hours, 121 persons from general public and 18 from the Central Armed Police Forces were detected positive,� said Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director of the Manipur Health Department. �All the infected persons were from Imphal West, Imphal East, Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Thoubal, Churachandpur and Bishnupur, and they are now undergoing treatment at various COVID care facilities,� the official said in a statement.

189 persons were also discharged after their recovery from seven COVID care facilities. The cumulative number of discharged cases stood at 5,164. The number of active cases is 1,820. The recovery rate is 73.54 per cent.

Meanwhile, a total of 3,52,635 persons were screened at various entry points of the State, while 1,72,650 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres in the State.

Meanwhile, an awareness campaign in and around Imphal is underway to create awareness among the people about preventive measures, home isolation,different helpline numbers and also about the use of masks and other health hygiene to prevent the spread of the disease.
