Manipur relaxes lockdown restrictions

IMPHAL, Sept 1 - The Manipur Government has announced new guidelines for the month of September, relaxing the restrictions imposed during the complete lockdown.

State Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, who is the chairperson of the executive committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, issued an order in this regard on Monday.

According to the latest guidelines, movement of permitted goods across the Indo-Myanmar border under the land-border trade treaties with Myanmar, has been allowed amid strict adherence to the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) prescribed by the Government. Inter and intra-State public transport has also been permitted subject to social distancing norms.

The Government also plans to permit skill or entrepreneurship training in national skill training institutes, industrial training institutes, short-term training centres registered with national skill development corporations or State development mission or other ministries of the Government of India or State governments or similar institutes for entrepreneurship with effect from September 21 subject to observance of the SOP issued by the Union Ministry of Health Family Welfare.

Restrictions on the functioning of financial institutes, private banks, etc., with 66 per cent of the existing staff, have also been lifted. All shopping malls have been asked to regulate entry to prevent crowding, while all gymnasiums should maintain roster usage by members to prevent crowding. Barber shops and beauty salons can also operate now.

As per the Manipur Government order, the locality-based retail shops dealing in essential commodities like groceries, vegetables and fruits, milk and poultry will be allowed to open in all districts from 7 am to 5 pm on all days of the week. The complete lockdown had been in force in Manipur since July 23 after detection of COVID-19 infection among a few people with no history of travel outside the State. The lockdown ended on Monday.
