Manipur records total of 62 cases

IMPHAL, May 30 - With three new positive cases, the COVID-19 tally in Manipur has increased to 62, State Health officials said today.

Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar, Additional Director of the State Health Department, in a press release, said that a 44-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were confirmed as the 61st and the 62nd COVID-19 positive cases at the VRDL (virus research and diagnostic laboratory) of the JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences).

Informing that the 62nd case, a returnee from Mumbai, is from Chandel district, the release stated that the condition of both patients is stable. They will be shifted to the COVID care facility of the JNIMS.

Earlier in the day, the 60th case of COVID 19 was confirmed at the VRDL of the RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences). The patient is a 19-year-old girl belonging to Imphal West, who had returned from Gujarat. Admitting that her condition is also stable, the release said all necessary preventive and control measures likes containment and contact tracing are now in place.

Till 6 pm on Saturday, 580 samples have been tested for COVID-19 at the VRDLs of the RIMS and the JNIMS, the release said.

The State has 55 active cases as per the day�s status update issued by the Surveillance Officer of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, Manipur. So far seven persons have been discharged from hospital following recovery.

Meanwhile, the fourth meeting of the State Consultative Committee for COVID-19 was held at the Manipur Chief Minister�s Office to review the situation in the State in view of the rise in COVID-19 positive cases.

In a tweet this evening, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, �The 4th meeting of state consultative committee for COVID 19 was held at the chief minister�s office to review the prevailing situation in the state in view of the rising number of COVID 19 positive cases and need to establish a COVID care centre & more testing per day, and other issues.�

Meanwhile, the Manipur Government has appealed to those stranded persons wishing to return to Assam, Bihar, UP, Delhi, etc., to contact the Assistant Nodal Officer on the phone number, 09436849755, to avail of train travel latest by 3 pm on June 1. In a press release, the State Chief Secretary said that the Government would arrange their travel by train either on June 4 or 5 from Jiribam.
