IMPHAL, Feb 17 - In an effort to control prevailing law and order situation and other crime-related activities particularly in the State capital, Manipur police has launched a WhatsApp group for police and business leaders to exchange information on time.
The idea behind launching the WhatsApp group is to bridge communication gaps and difficulties between the business community and police related to law and order and crime occurring in market areas, said a police officer, adding, It is being taken up as part of community policing.
Manipur DGP LM Khaute inaugurated the WhatsApp group during a simple function here last week.
A day later, IGP (Range-I) Clay Khongsai launched a similar public-police WhatsApp group at a function held at the conference hall of Imphal East district police headquarters.
IGP Khongsai, speaking on the occasion, said that the department and public can share information on time through this system so that the police can respond to reports of criminal acts on time. This would also help to bridge the communication gap between public and police and bring the two entities closer, the IGP added.
