Manipur panchayat polls: Cong 108, BJP 62

IMPHAL, Jan 16 - The ruling Congress managed to bag 108 seats, followed by independents with 102 seats, BJP 62, LJP four and CPI two seats at the end of counting of votes for the 18 Municipal Councils (MCs) and the eight Nagar Panchayats (NPs) election in Manipur.

A total of 236 candidates including 199 Cong candidates, 181 BJP, 280 independents, 16 CPI and nine LJP candidates had contested the polls.

Meanwhile, claiming that BJP is getting public support even in Congress strongholds in the local body election, BJP Manipur Pradesh President Th Chaoba said that the poll shows that Modi wave has reached the State. Earlier, there was no alternative against the Congress, he added.
