Manipur overall champions

GUWAHATI, Feb 5 � Manipur, with 35 points, won the overall championship in the 57th U-17 National School Games Taekwondo Championship which concluded at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Sarusajai here today.

Assam girl Tasin Begum received the best fighter award while in the boys section, Goa�s Laishram Dinku Singh was adjudged best fighter. Kerala (34 points) and Assam (32 points) came second and third respectively in the overall championship. However, In boys category, Assam (14 points) became runners-up after Manipur (18 points) while Kerala (12 points) was the third spot. In the girls section, Kerala (22 points) topped the table pushing Assam (18 points), Maharashtra and Manipur (17 points each) to second and joint third positions respectively.

In the closing function, State Sports Minister Ajit Singh was present as chief guest. Former Director of Sports and presently DC Golaghat Sanjib Gohain Baruah was also present on the occasion. The championship was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare where 18 affiliated units of School Games Federation of India took part.

(Silver) Ringsar Ramchiary, boys 56-60kg, Ajoy Boro, boys above 64kg, Monika Baruah, girls 44-48kg, Alice Tongbram, girls above 60kg. (Bronze) Kaustav Baruah, boys 38-41kg, Jubin Ahmed, boys 44-48kg, Birkhang Basumatary, boys 60-64kg, Sabita Ramchiary, girls 41-44kg, Julie Baruah, girls 52-56kg.
