By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, Aug 1 - Manipur Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Sajiwa Central Jail incident wherein three jail inmates including two convicts, who claimed themselves to be Saudi nationals, were killed in violence inside the Jail.

Announcing this, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam told reporters here on Monday that the inquiry will be conducted by the Deputy Commissioner Imphal East district. He has been directed to complete the probe within 30 days. Gaikhangam, who holds the Home portfolio, also said that the government will re-look at the jail rules once the inquiry is completed.

In the wee hours of July 30, two convicts Yusuf (21) and Abdus Salam (22), who claimed to be from Medinatul Manou Warh in Saudi Arabia, allegedly killed an under-trial prisoner Thangminlian Zou alias Bobon (29) of Churachandpur district in Sector 1 of the Jail, where the trio were allowed to stay together reportedly on the request of learning Arab language, official sources said. On learning that Zou was killed, other inmates reportedly killed the duo, who were arrested from Moreh town in Manipur bordering Myanmar for entering the State without valid documents in 2013, the sources added.

The Home Minister also informed that the duo claimed that they are from Saudi Arabia in their deportation form which was forwarded by the State Government to the concerned authority in Delhi as their jail term had expired in June 2014.

The Saudi Embassy officials in New Delhi had claimed that there are no Saudi nationals in Indian jails, according to agency reports.
