By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, Jan 21 - Manipur Government on Thursday observed the 44th Statehood Day at Manipur Film Development Corporation auditorium here.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the State Government is giving emphasis on health, power and education sectors for their improvement to the national level and to be listed among the best States in the Northeastern region. He, however, lamented that the State Government is getting limited number of working days for carrying out developmental works due to frequent bandhs and blockades in the State.

Appealing to politicians, policy makers and others to join hands to build a better Manipur for the future generation, the Chief Minister expressed the need to resolve the issues and problems of the people. Our problems should be solved by ourselves, not by others, he felt.

The State is 44 years old today but the development works cannot be taken up smoothly as limited funds were released, he added. However, the government is taking up development programmes based on priority basis, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam claimed that the State Government has been trying to fulfil the wishes of the people. He urged the people to take a pledge to engage themselves in building up the State as a self-reliant and self-sufficient one.

The function was also attended by Health Minister Phungzathang Tonshing, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Ngamthang Haokip, Education Minister M Okendro, PHE Minister I Hemochandra and senior civil and police officials.
