IMPHAL, Aug 18 � Manipur�s Congress MLA Elangbam Suraj Singh died in a road accident in New Delhi late last night.
Family sources in Imphal said that he met with the road accident at Nizamuddin area when his car was reportedly hit by another four-wheeler around 11.30 pm of Wednesday. �I�m deeply shocked to learn about the sudden demise of E Suraj, MLA, Yaiskul Assembly constituency. He was a man of principle� a gentle soul who will be fondly remembered by all of us for his straight forwardness and understanding nature,� Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in a condolence message here said.
�On his demise the State has lost an eminent political leader. On behalf of people of Manipur and on my behalf I would like to convey our deepest condolence and sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.�
Suraj Singh was elected to the Manipur Assembly on Indian National Congress ticket from Yaiskul Assembly Constituency in a by-poll in December 2009.
He was 46 and is survived by his wife and three children. The dead body will be flown to Imphal tomorrow morning.
