Manipur Literature Award for Sudhir Naoroibam

IMPHAL, Nov 28 - The 2020 Manipur State Award For Literature has been conferred on Sudhir Naoroibam for his book, Asengba Yum Amasung Atei Warising, a collection of 12 short stories published in 2018. The award comprises a memento, citation, shawl and a cheque for Rs 3 lakh. The award presentation ceremony was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) here today. Manipur Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh presented the award to Sudhir Naoroibam.

Speaking on the occasion, minister Rajen Singh said that writers are the leading light in a society. He observed that there is no harm in learning languages of different communities and countries. �But at the same time, we should also preserve and protect our ancient language and script,� the minister stressed. Rajen Singh assured that a State Award for Translation would be instituted next year in consultation with officials of the Language and Education Department. The Government has acknowledged the importance of translation into different languages, he added.

Commissioner, Education (S), T Ranjit Singh presided over the award function. The Director, Language Planning and Implementation, Th Chitra Devi was also present on the occasion along with other officials, writers and teachers from the Manipur University.
