Manipur journalist remembered

IMPHAL, Oct 27 - Khelen Thokchom, a well-known journalist of Manipur who passed away on April 1 last year, was remembered on his 59th birth anniversary today during an event held at Manipur Press Club.

The function was organised by Khelen Thokchom Trust.

Prof MC Arun of Manipur University, President Bijoy Kakchingtabam of All Manipur Working Journalists� Union, president of Manipur Editors Guild Khogendra Khondram, Director of Information and Public Relations Department H Balkrishna recounted the life and work of the departed journalist during the function.

Former director of Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Public Health Engineering Department Rajkumar Dilip Singh delivered a talk on water during the day�s event, which was attended by university teachers, officials, journalists, relatives, friends and well-wishers of the departed journalist.

Apart from felicitating the two recipients of first Khelen Thokchom Media Fellowship, 2018-19 � Heikrujam Sadananda (43) of Poknapham, a vernacular daily, and ST Lelen Vaiphei (27) of Imphal Free Press � with shawls and certificates, Babie Sarin, a staff reporter of Imphal Free Press, was selected for 2nd Khelen Thokchom Media Fellowship, 2019-20.

A booklet titled �Prospects of Cricket in Manipur�, which is a compilation of media reports by two media fellows was also released during the function.
