Manipur institutions asked to promote Class XI students

IMPHAL, May 1 - The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) on Thursday advised principals of all educational institutions running higher secondary classes to promote students of Class XI to Class XII for the academic year, 2019-2020, in view of the outbreak of COVID-19.

COHSEM Secretary Ch Biren Singh, in a notification, advised all the principals of higher secondary schools and colleges imparting higher secondary courses to promote students who are in possession of admit cards issued by the COHSEM, on the basis of assessment of term tests conducted so far. It also advised the heads of the institutions to submit the prepared tabulation sheets on or before May 13.

Thursday�s notification came following a State Cabinet decision and a subsequent letter issued by the Education Commissioner. In the letter dated April 27, the Education Commissioner (Schools) T Ranjit Singh asked the COHSEM Secretary to take further action as deemed fit, and intimate the �action taken report� to the State Government at the earliest.

The letter stated that the Cabinet had approved of promotion of Class XI students to Class XII on the basis of term test performances.

The State Cabinet meeting also approved that the Class XI examination conducted by the COHSEM for the academic year 2019-2020, should be done away with in view of the COVID-19 situation.

On April 8, Manipur Education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam had stated that additional classes for students of classes I to XII would be conducted during the summer vacation to make up for the loss due to the lockdown.
