Manipur Guv visits quake victims

IMPHAL, Jan 10 - Manipur and Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan on Sunday visited the injured persons of the recent earthquake in health care centres here.

Later, speaking to media, the Governor said that the government is concerned over the recent earthquake which has affected normal life in the State.

He assured that the government will take up necessary steps to address the grievances of the people besides extending all possible help to the needy ones. He also visited the earthquake affected buildings in and around Imphal.

Earlier, the Governor along with Raj Bhavan officials visited the relief camps opened after the quake in Senapati district.

On Saturday, the Governor had interacted with women vendors and assessed the damages caused by the quake at Ima Keithel in Imphal.

He had also visited the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital where 15 injured are undergoing treatment.

After the IIT Roorkee experts inspected the Ima Keithel buildings, several other expert teams from different parts of the country also inspected the damages sustained by the five-year-old buildings.

Among the experts team were National Disaster Management Authority, Director of IIT Jodhpur Prof CVR Murty, Director of National Centre for Seismolgy, New Delhi Dr Vineet K Gahalaut, Principal Scientist of Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, Dr Ajay Chourasia and Senior Engineer of National Buildings Construction Corporation LP Singh and Ken Sharma.
