Manipur Govt to observe People�s Day every month

IMPHAL, April 9 - In a move to provide easy access to the elected representatives and top bureaucrats, Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government in Manipur is planning to announce 15th of every month as �Meeyamgi Numit� (People�s Day).

Announcing this at a reception by the women vendors of Nupi Keithel, women�s market here on Sunday, Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh said a formal official order would be issued soon in this regard.

Stating that his government is fully committed to work in the interest of the people of Manipur, he said the public would be allowed to meet the CM, Ministers, Commissioners, Secretaries, Deputy Commissioners and SPs to lodge their complaints and air their grievances on the 15th of every month.

He said that ending the UNC-sponsored economic blockade, resolving Churachandpur issue and revamping Imphal-Jiribam sector of NH-37 were the three tasks he had set for himself after he was sworn in as the CM.

Stating that the first round of talks with JAC Churachandpur has come to an end on a positive note, he expressed hope that the impasse would be resolved within a few days. He said he would personally inspect the repair works on the Imphal-Jiribam Highway.

Every hill district headquarters would now have a women�s market each, he said, adding the Centre had already sanctioned funds for the said project.

Taking serious note of leakage of question paper of Physics subject in Class XII examinations conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM), he said an independent body would probe the matter. The Government will not spare those who are involved in the mess, he added.

The function was attended by Works, RD& PR, Commerce and Industries, Power and IPR Minister Th Biswajit and MAHUD, Forest and Environment and Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Th Shyamkumar.
