IMPHAL, Oct 6 - The Manipur Government will hold a dialogue with the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM), Kuki Students Organisation General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM), here tomorrow on issues related to the Manipur University impasse, according to sources.
The State Government invited the tribal student organisations today for the talks. On Friday, the student bodies had warned that a five-day economic blockade would be imposed on all the national highways under their respective jurisdictions from 5 am on October 9 if the their demands for restoration of normalcy in the Manipur University were not met by October 8.
The tribal student bodies also took a resolution to demand a separate Hill Central University.
The ATSUM, KSO-GHQ and ANSAM had served a seven-day ultimatum on October 2 for resumption of normal classes and other activities at the Manipur University.
According to leaders of these student organisations, every year the tribal students face hardship as problems after problems are created by vested interest people in the Manipur University to continue with their game. They said that colleges in the hills affiliated to the Manipur University also suffer immensely. Now, we want a Hill Central University so that all the colleges in the hill districts can affiliate to it and have an ideal academic ambience, some leaders of these bodies said.
