Manipur Govt shuts down Internet services

IMPHAL, Sept 23 - Manipur Government has shut down internet services for five days beginning September 21 with the situation becoming volatile following the midnight raid in the Manipur University men�s hostel where about 90 people were picked up by police. Official sources said that the decision to shut down internet is a pre-emptive measure.

Meanwhile, six teachers of Manipur University and seven students, who were among the arrested persons during the raid on the intervening night of September 20 and 21, have been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days in connection with the alleged �manhandling� of Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university, K Yogindro Singh. Earlier, they were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West district.
