IMPHAL, March 7 - The Manipur government has urged the Central authorities to lay underground pipelines for fuel supply to the volatile border State in future.
�The State government has made a proposal in this regard,� said Director Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ranjan Yumnam. �The IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) agreed the proposal and tender has been floated,� Yumnam said.
Yumnam was speaking to media persons as part of highlighting the achievement of the State government departments, in Imphal on Wednesday afternoon.
The project which aims to supply fuel through a pipeline connecting Guwahati-Lumdung-Silchar-Imphal may take 2-3 years time for completion, he added.
The proposal includes LPG gas (underground) pipeline from Numaligarh to Imphal via Dimapur.
Besides, steps are being taken to bring fuel to the State, which requires 184 kilolitres of petrol, 282 kilolitres of diesel, 100 kilolitres of kerosene, 92 metric tonnes of LPG every day with the help of railways by the end of 2019 onwards, the officer added.
