IMPHAL, April 30 - The Government of India has allocated 11,796 MT of rice for implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Manipur. The allocation is from the month of April 2016 onwards, a DIPR press statement said here on Friday.

The allocation was made on the request of the State Government to take only rice and convert whatever quota of wheat was entitled for Manipur into rice. The State Government has provided Rs 30 crore in 2016-17 Budget as State share for implementation of NFSA, the DIPR release added. The Act was launched in Manipur on April 24. For smooth implementation of the Act, identification and digitisation of households and beneficiaries of NFSA has already been completed in the State.

Under the provisions of the Act, 75 per cent of rural population and 50 per cent of the urban population are entitled to get the benefit of subsidised foodgrains.
