Manipur gears up for vaccination prog

IMPHAL, Dec 11 - Necessary steps are being taken to administer COVID-19 vaccines, whenever these are available, to identified beneficiaries in Manipur. Preparatory work is on as advised by the Central authorities, Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) V Vumlunmang has said.

In his briefing on COVID-19 this afternoon, the Principal Secretary stated that uploading of names of health care workers of 138 government and 108 private health facilities on the COWIN portal of the Government of India is in full swing.

There are 126 cold chain points in Manipur that are being continuously monitored at the State and district levels on the eVIN mobile app, Vumlunmang said.

On the ongoing preparation for the vaccination programme by way of forming a State-level task force and other committees, Manipur Immunization Officer Dr Th Nandakishwor Singh said that listing of names of 14,000 of the targeted 41,000 beneficiaries is under way. Other frontline workers, including media personnel, will be included in the next phase, he added.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary (Health) stated that the COVID-19 positivity rate in the State has declined slightly in December. However, he appealed to the people to wear face masks at crowded places.
