Manipur flays �immigrant� reference

IMPHAL, Feb 4 � The report of reference to people of NE as �immigrant� in the BJP�s vision document released in connection with the Delhi Assembly elections, has evoked condemnation from political parties in Manipur.

Denouncing the act, CPI Manipur State Council members staged a sit-in demonstration in Imphal on Wednesday.

Former MLA N Mangi of CPI Manipur alleged that the racial discrimination meted out to the NE people, is now exposed by BJP. Such terms should not be used to refer the citizens of the country, he said. Demanding removal of the term from the BJP vision document, the former MLA also sought a probe into the incident.

Janata Dal (United) Manipur also attacked the BJP for referring to people of NE as �Immigrant�.

Meanwhile, BJP headquarters in New Delhi has clarified that they have no bad intention towards the people of North East. They also informed the Manipur State unit president Th Chaoba that the word �immigrants� has been removed now, according to BJP State spokesman RK Shivachandra.
