Manipur Fire Service tackles 230 incidents

IMPHAL, April 29 - Manipur Fire Service department has been rendering its service with the motto �We Serve to Save� to the people of the State saving precious lives and properties worth several crores of rupees from fire and other man-made and natural calamities and accidents.

During the year 2015-16, the State Fire Service handled 230 fire incidents. Of these, 85 were major ones causing loss of properties worth over Rs one lakh, a DIPR release said on Thursday.

The incidents involved were fire in residential buildings, shops, commercial establishments, educational institutions, offices, tea stalls, vehicles, unauthorised oil, LPG stores and forest fire.

Manipur Fire Service has a fire station at Imphal and 15 fire sub-stations in the State. Recently, the State Government has sanctioned for opening of six new fire sub-stations.

The Department observed Fire Service Week which commenced on April 14.
