Manipur extends lockdown till August 6

IMPHAL, July 30 - The Manipur government has extended the ongoing total lockdown in the State till August 6. The State has been under complete lockdown since July 23.

Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, who is the chairperson of the State executive committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, issued an order in this regard on Thursday. �There shall be complete lockdown and the Deputy Commissioners will issue orders imposing curfew in their respective districts,� the order said.

Meanwhile, two more persons died of COVID-19 at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here today, taking the COVID-19 death toll to three.

One of the deceased was a 48-year-old man from Limakong while the other was a man, aged 47 years, from Langol. On Wednesday, the State reported its first COVID-19 death when a 56-year-old man from Khongjom passed away at RIMS.

Two resident doctors of RIMS have also tested positive for COVID-19, taking the count of infected hospital staff to 22, sources said.

The State on Wednesday witnessed the highest single-day spike of 141, taking the State�s overall tally to 2,458.
