IMPHAL, May 11 - With weather remaining dry, Manipur has been experiencing the warmest days since the last four days. In the State capital Imphal, people continue to face seasonal summer heat during the day and warm weather in the night. The State witnessed maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius since May 8. But the temperature has gone up to 40 degrees Celsius since the last two days.
The maximum temperatures were recorded at Chandel district bordering Myanmar on Friday and Saturday with a minimum temperature of 19.52 and 19.58 degrees Celsius respectively as per weather report by Climate Change Cell of Directorate of Environment here.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in the State capital is also on the rise since the last two days. A maximum temperature of 33.63 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.48 degree Celsius were recorded on Saturday against Friday�s maximum temperature of 33 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.77 degree Celsius.
This trend of warm weather in all the districts except Ukhrul had started from April 24 onwards. Though the temperature declined all of a sudden when the Cyclone �Fani� hit the country, an unpredicted cyclonic storm on April 28 damaged many houses, uprooting trees and disturbed the power supply in Imphal besides claiming lives of four persons when a couple of boats capsized in Mapithel dam reservoir and Imphal river.
As per official rainfall data available here, Manipur received deficit rainfall during January-April this year compared with the previous year�s record. January recorded just 3.4 mm of rainfall against the previous year�s record of 13.5 mm. Manipur receives an average annual rainfall of around 1,400 mm.
