Manipur ex-minister H Haokip passes away

IMPHAL, April 9 - Former minister and former Lok Sabha member Holkhomang Haokip passed away following prolonged illness at his Imphal residence on Monday evening. He was 80.

Haokip was first elected as a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1972. He was a member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, from 2000-2004. He was a minister in various Manipur governments (1972 to 1995) and an MP of the 13th Lok Sabha (1999). Haokip had worked tirelessly for the uplift of his people when he was the president of Kuki Inpi, the apex organisation of Kukis in Manipur, since 1995.

A condolence service was held at his residence today, which was attended by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and others. Former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party leader O Ibobi Singh and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaikhangam, besides many Kuki politicians and officials, attended the condolence service.
