IMPHAL, Jan 31: With the reopening of schools from Class IX onwards, Manipur Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh has begun inspection of schools across the State.

During inspection, the minister was accompanied by Commissioners M Harekrishna (Higher and Technical Education), T Ranjit Singh (Education-Schools), Director L Nandakumar Singh (Education-Schools), Additional State Project Director (Sarba Siksha Abhiyan) T Phulen Meetei, Additional Director (Education-Schools-Village) Bisheshwar Khumukcham and others.

Attendance of staff and students was checked during the visit. Later, the minister told reporters that appropriate action would be taken against those teaching and non-teaching staff of schools and colleges, who were found absent during office hours.

Schools reopened for students of Class IX and above on January 27.

Informing that the Education Department has already distributed medical kits like hand sanitizer, face masks, soaps and detergents to schools and colleges as a precautionary measure against COVID-19, Rajen Singh said that staff and students should follow the SoP prescribed by the government.

Meanwhile, most students and teachers of government and private educational institutions have expressed happiness over resumption of regular classes in the State.
