Manipur Education Minister discusses NEP with student bodies

IMPHAL, Aug 22 - Manipur Education Minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam today held a meeting with representatives of student organisations here to discuss how the new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, can be effectively implemented in the State.

The meeting was also attended by Commissioner (Education-S) T Ranjit Singh, Director (Education-S) L Nandakumar Singh, Additional Director (Education-S), Hills, Lerte Hmangte Kom, Additional Director (Education-S), Valley, Ch Sachi Devi and other officials concerned.

Appreciating the important role played by the student organisations in improving the education system in the State, the minister said that the meeting was held to understand the new education policy and analyse how it could be effectively implemented in schools, and for teachers� training and higher education. He sought suggestions and views from student representatives in the meeting.

Dr Radheshyam said that a series of meetings are being held by the Department of Education to discuss the new education policy. He pointed out that better understanding of the NEP, 2020, would help in establishing the best education system in the State based on Indian ethos.

The minister also highlighted some major reforms in the NEP, 2020, such as the new 5+3+3+4 school curriculum, teaching of students of up to Grade 5 in the mother tongue or regional language and multiple entry/exit with appropriate certification in undergraduate education.

On August 18, Dr Radheshyam had held a meeting with government officials to finalise the formation of the special task force for effective implementation of the NEP, 2020.
