Manipur district council polls on May 30

IMPHAL, March 28 � The elections to the six Autonomus District Councils (ADCs) in five hill districts in Manipur will be held on May 30 next.

A Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh took the decision on Friday evening.

The Cabinet also decided to recognise four dialects of the hills for its introduction in the school curriculum (upto class VIII). This was conveyed to media persons by the Spokesperson of the government Moirangthem Okendro Singh after conclusion of the Cabinet meet here.

The Draft Electoral Rolls for the election will be released on March 30, while the final Rolls would be released on April 20, he said.

Public notification for the ADC election will be published on April 30, Minister added. Last date for filing nomination papers has been fixed on May 6 while the scrutiny will be on the following day.

The last date for withdrawal of the nomination papers is May 11 while counting will be conducted on June 8. The overall process of the ADC election is scheduled to finish by June 15 next, he added.

According to Minister Okendro, four dialects of the hills, namely Maram, Anal, Maring and Simte have been given recognition for introduction in the curriculum of schools in the State upto Class VIII.

There are 39 tribal dialects in the State. So far, 13 dialects have been introduced in the school curriculum.
