Manipur COVID-19 toll reaches 35

IMPHAL, Sept 4 - Two men and a woman died of COVID-19 and other comorbid conditions in Manipur during the past 24 hours, an official release stated. The cumulative number of deaths in the State has reached 35.

Meanwhile, Manipur Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen, who tested positive for COVID-19 last month, has tested negative in the latest test.

In a tweet on Friday, the minister wrote, �I got myself tested again for COVID-19, and the report came back negative this time. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the KPI district medical team, Dr Lokeswar, JNIMS, to my well wishers & to those who prayed for my speedy recovery.�

In the past 24 hours, Manipur reported 125 new recoveries. The recovery rate stood at 73.13 per cent on Friday. So far, 4,899 persons out of the total 6,699 COVID-19 positive cases have recovered and been discharged from various COVID care centres in the State.

An official release stated that the number of active cases is 1,765. Stating that 66 persons, including 27 females from the general population and 24 from the Central Armed Police Forces, were confirmed positive in the last 24 hours in the State, the release added that they are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Jiribam, Kakching, Tengnoupal and Ukhrul. All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to COVID care facilities, the release added.

An awareness campaign on COVID-19 was launched on Tuesday in and around the State capital in collaboration with the people�s task force and the Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur branch.
