Manipur COVID-19 toll reaches 25

IMPHAL, Aug 26 - One more death and 141 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the past 24 hours in Manipur, State Health Department sources said today.

The total death toll in the State due to COVID-19 and other comorbid health conditions is currently 25. The COVID-19 tally in the State has risen to 5,585.

�In the past 24 hours, 116 persons from the general population and 25 from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) were confirmed positive,� said the COVID-19 Common Control Room in a press release. They are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kakching, Senapati, Noney and Kangpokpi, the release added.

�Two persons from Noney out of the general population are returnees from other States, while the rest 114 are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to COVID care facilities,� the release said.

�In the last 24 hours, a female aged 65 years from the Imphal West expired at the JNIMS,� the release said. The cumulative number of deaths is 25, it added.

It may be mentioned that the State reported its first death due to COVID-19 on July 29, while the first case of COVID 19 was registered on March 24.

In the past 24 hours, 17 persons were also discharged, the release stated.

The cumulative number of recovered cases now stands at 3,829. The number of active cases is 1, 731. The recovery rate is 68.55 per cent, the release added.

As of Wednesday, a total of 3,40,404 persons were screened at various entry points of the State, while 1,40,610 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres in the State.
