Manipur COVID-19 death toll reaches 18

IMPHAL, Aug 18 - Manipur recorded one more death due to COVID-19 and other comorbid health conditions today, taking the State�s virus toll to 18.

�Today, a female aged 75 years from Imphal West (district) expired at the JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences) due to COVID-19 and other comorbid health conditions,� Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and spokesperson of the State Health Department, said in a press release here this evening. The cumulative number of deaths is 18, he added.

�In the past 24 hours, 73 persons from the general population and five from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases,� Dr Sasheekumar Mangang added.

The COVID-19 cases were detected at the VRDL of the JNIMS and eight other testing centres. They are from Thoubal, Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur and Noney districts.

In the past 24 hours, 55 people were discharged following recovery, the release added. The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases is 4,765, including 1,221 CAPF personnel, while the cumulative number of discharged cases is 2,789. The number of active cases is 1,958, including 946 CAPF personnel. The recovery rate is 58.53 per cent.
