Manipur COVID-19 cases reach 124

IMPHAL, June 4 - With the detection of 16 more positive cases, the COVID-19 tally in Manipur has increased to 124. The total active cases now stand at 86, Health Department officials said today. As many as 38 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery till date.

Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director of the State Health Department, in a press release, stated that 16 persons, including nine males and seven females, tested positive for COVID-19 at the VRDL of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences last night.

They belong to Bishnupur, Chandel, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Tamenglong and Tengnoupal districts.

The patients are being shifted to the COVID care facilities at the RIMS and the JNIMS, the release added.

Man held: A man was arrested by Bishnupur district police on charges of uploading fake news on Facebook, on Thursday. The arrested man, Pheiroijam Kripa (53), hails from Nongada Awang Leikai in Imphal East district.

According to the police, Kripa whose Facebook account is in the name of Luwangcha Pheiroijam Pareihanba, uploaded a fake news item stating that Bishnupur district has been declared a containment zone after a municipal worker tested positive for COVID-19. �The news created a lot of panic, fear and confusion to the general public,� the police added.

Immediately, a Bishnupur Police Station team, with the assistance of the Cyber Crime unit of Imphal West district, established Kripa�s identity. He was arrested from a rented accommodation at Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai.

In another development, police of the same district arrested seven persons for damaging a marigold plantation belonging to one Irengbam Maniyai Singh (48), at Kamong Maning Leikai.

A video clip of ransacking of the marigold plantation by the miscreants, who also damaged harvested tomatoes kept on the roadside, went viral in the social media during the day.
