Manipur COVID-19 cases climb to 157

IMPHAL, June 6 - The total number of COVID-19 cases in Manipur has reached 157, officials said today. However, as 52 persons have already been discharged from hospital after their recovery, the total active cases stand at 105.

�Last night 11 persons (two males and nine females) were confirmed as COVID-19 positive at the VRDL (Virus Research and Diagnosis Laboratory), JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences),� said Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director of the Manipur Health Department, in a press release today. Most of those who tested positive last night are Mumbai returnees.

Another release issued later in the day stated: �Today till 6.30 pm, 14 males are confirmed as COVID-19 positive at the VRDL, JNIMS. All are from Kangpokpi district. They are all returnees from a Delhi train. Their health condition is stable.�

They are being shifted to the COVID care facility at the JNIMS. The district administration has taken necessary measures like containment and contact tracing, the release added.

Meanwhile, Dr Mangang stated: �Today, 11 persons (five females and six males) are discharged from the RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences) after testing negative for COVID-19.� Those discharged from hospital are from Imphal West, Ukhrul, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Noney and Tamenglong districts.
