IMPHAL, Oct 27 - A delegation of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC-I) will submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the ongoing Naga peace talks and its possible fallout on Manipur.
�We will submit the memorandum through the State Governor tomorrow,� Congress Legislature Party leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh told reporters at the Congress Bhavan here today. Reacting to a report that an all-party delegation of the State is awaiting appointment with the Central leaders, he asked if the delegation will continue to wait till the appointment is given.
The plan of the all-party delegation is to call on the Central leaders, including the Prime Minister, in Delhi and put pressure on them to ensure that the Naga peace talks do not affect Manipur�s integrity in any manner. There have been reports that the team failed to get an appointment with the Prime Minister due to Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana as well as Diwali.
A State BJP team left for New Delhi on Friday to fix appointments with the Central leaders, including Modi and Shah.
The all-party delegation is expected to present the case of Manipur before the Central Government with regard to the ongoing talks with the NSCN-IM.
On Friday, the memorandum drafting sub-committee on the Naga peace talks, led by Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh, called on Chief Minister N Biren Singh here. It may be noted that the drafting sub-committee was formed during the all-party meet held here on October 22.
Ibobi Singh said that it is better to go (to Delhi) and pressurise the Central Government through the leaders of different national parties. At the same time, he also appealed for a peaceful and lasting solution to the Naga issue.
Newly appointed president of MPCC-I Moirangthem Okendro, Congress Working Committee member and MLA Gaikhangam, and other party leaders were present at the press conference.
Okendro, a former State minister, was appointed as MPCC-I president on October 23. Okendro represents the Heirok Assembly Constituency in Thoubal district.
