IMPHAL, April 3 - Former Manipur Minister and sitting MLA TN Haokip took charge as president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Saturday.
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, the outgoing MPCC president and around 20 Congress MLAs, besides three Parliamentary Secretaries attended the function at Congress Bhavan here. But none of the Ministers in the Council of Ministers of the Congress Government except Health Minister attended the function.
Haokip said the Chief Minister along with Gaikhangam and himself will be going to meet AICC President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Monday.
Meanwhile, the vice president of MPCC Dr Chaltonlien Amo, who is also the chairman of Manipur Hill Areas Committee, has reportedly tendered his resignation from the post in protest against the appointment of Haokip as new MPCC president.
