Manipur CM seeks Centres intervention

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Nov 25 - Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has sought Centres help in resolving the ongoing situation in Manipur following the indefinite economic blockade by United Naga Council (UNC).

I have apprised the situation in the State during my meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The Home Minister has informed that he will send an official team to Manipur to assess the situation, Ibobi said.

Ibobi, who was in New Delhi few days back, was addressing a press conference here. He rejected reports that he did not make any concrete proposal for Central assistance to Union Home Minister in connection with the ongoing economic blockade. The report is baseless, he said.

The news report in some local dailies was based on a press statement issued by BJP Manipur Pradesh after some party leaders called on Union Home Minister and briefed him about the ongoing blockade, in New Delhi on November 22.

The State has been facing indefinite blockade imposed by UNC on its National Highways since November 1 in protest against the report of Sadar Hills and Jiribam being declared as full-fledged districts.

Stating that the State Government has no concrete decision in this regard, Ibobi clarified, It is purely under the purview of the State Government as creation of new districts is purely for administrative conveniences. Nobody else should dictate on such matters.
