Manipur CM inaugurates slew of projects

IMPHAL, Sept 19 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday inaugurated five different projects, including three transit accommodation facilities for doctors, nurses and teachers. Besides, he also laid the foundation of 46 other projects in a function held at the Chief Minister�s Secretariat Complex here. The combined value of the projects is estimated at Rs 180 crore.

The projects which were inaugurated on Friday, include transit accommodation facilities for doctors and teachers at Singhat, Churachandpur and Borobekra, two-storeyed barracks with toilet facilities at the Manipur Police Training College, Pangei, and the Model Police Station at Porompat.

The projects, for which foundation stone was laid, include five heliports, 12 warehouses under the Election Department, 17 transit hostels and quarters for students and teachers, a 1000-capacity convention centre, a new women�s market complex at Tamenglong, office buildings of the Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd., police museum, traffic police station, barracks at the Commando Complex, infrastructure of Sangaithel Police Outpost, District Police Headquarters, Kakching, Tengnoupal Districts Girls� Hostel at the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Campus, sheds for hardware/electronics assembling at Mantripukhri, Nongpok Thong (bridge) of Kangla and development of a heritage village at Yangkhullen.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said transit accommodation facilities for doctors, nurses and teachers are being constructed at 19 different places. The facilities at Churachandpur, Singhat and Borobekra have been inaugurated, while the works in the remaining places will be completed by December.

Biren Singh added that heliports would be constructed at Tamenglong, Thanlon, Parbung, Moreh and Jiribam to provide air connectivity to interior areas of Manipur like Thanlon, Parbung, etc., at affordable prices and to boost air tourism.

On the Henglep Road, the Chief Minister clarified that the project had halted midway following a complaint from an ex-MLA. However, works on the project would begin soon, he added.

Consumers Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam, Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian, MLAs and high-ranking officials of the State Government also attended the function organised by the Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited.
