Manipur CM inaugurates 300-bed Covid Care Centre

IMPHAL,Aug 3 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today inaugurated a 300-bed Covid Care Centre (CCC) at the Manipur Trade and Expo Centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West District.

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar and Health Minister L Jayantakumar, Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, Principal Secretary (Health) V Vumlunmang, Director (Health) Dr K Rajo and other officials were present during the inaugural event.

Briefing mediapersons on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren Singh stated that there is evidence of local transmission of COVID-19, however there is no community transmission of the disease in the State.

Maintaining that awareness among the people is very much needed to contain further spread of the disease, he also appealed to the people to come out openly for early treatment instead of concealing their COVID-19 status, if tested positive. He also informed that the Cabinet will review the situation in the state soon.

The Chief Minister said that presently a total of 300 beds have been installed in the CCC, Lamboikhongnangkhong and it will be upgraded to a 1,000-bed centre as it has enough space for extension.

He appreciated the Health Department and other officials for setting up the Covid Care Centre so that infected people can get timely treatment.

Sharing the information in his twitter account, the Chief Minister wrote, �Inaugurated and operationalised the new 300-bed Covid Care Centre at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong today. This facility can be further upgraded to a 1,000-bed Covid Care Centre if the need arises.� Presently, there are 14 Covid care centres in the state.

With 89 new cases, including 5 from Central Armed Police Force, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur reached 2,920 today while the number of active and recovered cases are 1,147 and 1,766 respectively, according to official sources.29 persons were discharged today.The recovery rate is 60.47 percent.The cumulative number of deaths relating to COVID-19 in Manipur was 7 as on today.
